In Digital Marketing, a landing page, sometimes called as a lead capture page/ SEO Landing Page/ Conversion Page / lander / destination page, is a single web page that appears in response to click on a result shown by any search engine or an online advertisement. The landing page usually displays directed sales copy that is a logical extension of the advertisement, search result or link. Landing pages are used for sales or lead generation.
The call actions that a visitor takes on a landing page is what determines an advertisement's conversion rate. Landing pages are often linked to social media, e-mail campaigns, Google search engine result, Bing search engine result, directories, social bookmarking or search engine marketing campaigns in order to enhance the effectiveness of the advertisements and build strong backlinks.
The general goal of a landing page is to convert visitors into sales or lead generation. If the goal is to obtain a lead or sales, the landing page must include some section for the visitor from where he can contact the company, which mainly includes a phone number, or an inquiry form.
If you target sales, the landing page must have a link for the visitor to click, which redirects them to a shopping cart or a checkout section. By analysing activities generated by the linked URLs, digital marketers can use click-through rates and conversion rates to identify the success of an advertisement and backlinks.Types of Landing Pages
Mainly landing pages can be classified into two types which are Click Through and Lead Generation (also known as Lead Generation, Seo friendly Landing Page, Destination page, or Lead Capture pages).1. Click Through Landing Pages
Click through landing pages also known as jump pages are designed as a conduit between a marketing advertisement and it’s final destination. It has the goal of persuading the visitor to click through to another page of a website . Typically used in e-commerce funnels, Click Through Landing Pages can be used to describe a product or offer with sufficient detail which “warms up” a visitor to the point where they get one step closer to make the final purchase decision.
Basically used for e-commerce platforms, click-through pages provide enough information to inform the buyer and make them ready to purchase, before pushing them further down the funnel – probably to a shopping cart or checkout.
All too often, inbound advertising traffic is directed to shopping carts or registration processes. This leads to poor conversions as the ad doesn’t provide sufficient information to persuade the visitor to click on the call-to-action.
This is where the click through page comes in. The landing page from a click through page is typically registration form or the shopping cart – now with a much higher chances of conversion since the user has got all the details/info about the same on the landing page.
Checkout the example of click through landing page showing product images & videos which are paired with a description and product benefits which helps to persuade the visitor to click on the call-to-action.
2. Lead Generation Landing Pages
Lead generation landing pages are used to capture user's information or data, such as a social media credentials, name, phone number, address, email address and more. The sole purpose of the page is to collect information or data that will allow you to market to and connect with the prospective user at a subsequent time.
Mainly, a lead generation capture page will contain a form along with a description of what you’ll get in return for submitting your personal information or data.
There are many uses for lead generation landing pages, like:
- Ebook or whitepaper
- Registration form
- Webinar registration
- Consultation for professional services
- Discount coupon/voucher
- PPT(power point presentation) for download
- Contest entry
- Free trial
- A physical gift (via direct mail)
- Notification of a future product launch
Here’s an example of a lead generation landing page, which is designed to capture users or company's information or data in exchange for something, which in this case is an ebook/ppt.
